Crafting community has been working with families in Birchfield to introduce the art of shadow theatre – working with them to create their own shadow theatres to take home with them. We have also invited internationally renowned hand shadow artist Drew Colby to give a performance in Birchfield, free to local families.

Have really enjoyed creating this ‘Autumn Reflections’ piece as a temporary installation on the lakeside plinth in Handsworth Park, reflecting the beauty of nature & changing foliage of the trees above. Hand made bunches Rowan tree berrys were also created, adding a splash of vibrant colour. After the piece was installed, a story telling session was held with local children, featuring “The Rowan Tree’s Gift” by Clair Hewitt.  An artwork conceived and created by Scylla Magda of Crafting Community.

Crafting-Community, on behalf of PBAF, enjoyed coordinating the crafts & participation tent at Simmer Down festival 2018  last weekend . Workshops , led by local artists, included Jangles & Bangles  by Eleanor& Kerry, percussion & mask making workshops by Juliet & Scylla,  flag making by Hattie, Harmonograph drawing by Bobby, Tote bags by Claudette & Alex ,  plus face painting by Sarah’s Parlour.

A lovely crafting weekend , with a very busy workshop session at the Boathouse Cafe on the Saturday with Scylla and Eleanor , creating items, including bird feeders, to hang on a tree as part of National Tree Week, followed by dressing the tree on Sunday :

‘Combustion’ by Bobby Bird‘ 2009, made from recording a household Jøtul woodburning stove.  If a domestic sized burner can sound like this, what might a 28ft long Cornish Boiler, used to heat up a Bolton & Watt beam engine sound like ?
